When most people hear of “Rock Creek in Montana”, they think of the Missoula area. However, there is another Rock Creek that seldom gets any talk. This little river will surprise you with the size of fish! It’s a very small stream where wade fishing is the name of the game. We use the truck to get to local fishing access, then walk up and down the creek to desired spots. The trout like dry flies on Rock Creek! Close to Billings, and Red Lodge. Red Lodge is a great little Mountain town nestled to the Beartooth Mountains. Its not uncommon on this trip to pop into town for a nice lunch. Great pre-runoff fishing as well as early summer to late August.
What to Expect
Dry’s and hopper/dropper rigs are also the most productive way to catch them on Rock Creek.
Please note this little River is difficult to wade, and navigating the brush along the bank can be trying as well.
The Beartooth Highway
The Beartooth Highway is one of the most impressive mountain passes you will ever see! It begins at 5,500 ft, and switch backs up to almost 11,000 feet and is the gate way to Yellowstone National park. This drive takes about an hour and an half, and is well worth it. This can be added into your Rock Creek day upon request.
